Liquid helium transfer tubes
QMC Instruments Ltd offers two standard types of liquid transfer line which are designed at the delivery end to be suitable and safe for use with our range of liquid helium bath cryostats. These have an evacuated section of at least 150 mm length which is narrow enough to extend down into the neck of the cryostat i.e. it must have an outside diameter no greater than 6 mm. Both tube designs incorporate a KF16 type vacuum valve. You can choose either a rigid or a flexible mid-section depending on how accessible your cryostat location is. We also offer a bespoke transfer tube design service in case the standard tube dimensions are unsuitable.
Evacuated transfer lines must be used to transfer liquid helium due its low latent heat; it cannot be poured between containers or transferred through insulated pipes like nitrogen.
Products:
- Rigid liquid helium transfer tube, Type QTT/R
- Flexible liquid helium transfer tube, Type QTT/F
- Bespoke transfer tubes
Rigid liquid helium transfer tube, Type QTT/R
This tube has a 1 metre rigid stainless steel evacuated pipe on the storage / supply Dewar vertical leg and a 800 mm horizontal reach. 500 mm screw-on extensions are supplied which can be cut to length to suit most storage Dewar sizes.

Flexible liquid helium transfer tube, Type QTT/F
This tube has a 1 metre rigid stainless steel evacuated pipe on the storage / supply Dewar vertical leg and a 1200 mm reach on the flexible horizontal section. 500 mm screw-on extensions are supplied which can be cut to length to suit most storage Dewar sizes.

Bespoke flexible or rigid liquid helium transfer tubes
Both rigid and flexible transfer tubes of the types described above that have different horizontal reaches and different storage Dewar vertical legs can be built to customer specification.
