The Moore Machine Tool company - over many decades of work - dedicated themselves to mechanical accuracy. They made many of the secondary mechanical measurement standards used by National Metrology labs around the world. For their Jig Grinders - essentially 2D machines - they went to significant lengths to generate X,Y,Z axis orthogonality and lead screw precision. Many of our Jig Grinders are 30 Years old - normally you would expect such machine tools would be worn out, but given the forces-less process of jig grinding, the machine's casting are now fully stabilised, and no wear can be detected. The Moore 8400 machine imaged below was fully rebuilt for us in 2012 by 2 SQ b...
Thomas Keating Ltd has won a 150 K USD order to provide the US National High Magnetic Field laboratory with a 395 GHz Quasi-Optic transmission line for a new Dynamic Nuclear Polarization instrument they are building. Our job is to couple efficiently power from a gyrotron to the sample buried deep inside a high homogeneity superconducting magnet. The use of DNP to enhance NMR spectrometer sensitivity is generating great excitement in the structural biology community. Thomas Keating is stepping up its efforts to provide students who have Physics and Engineering in their sights - both at school and at University - with an experience of industrial life. Annabelle Nye, who is an undergraduate reading Physics at Birmingham, is spending a month with us developing a PID based heating system to hold samples at high temperatures in one of our Quasi-optical bench. Our customer is the Fraunhofer Institut Zuverlässigkeit & Mikrointegration - IZM Abt. Systemdesign & -integration in Berlin, and we are hoping that she will be able to visit them to demonstrate her work when we deliver our hardware in the autumn. Charlie Braham is seen here add...
Simon Croucher joins Thomas Keating as Electro-forming Manager to oversee the expansion of our electro-forming business. Simon’s experience covers many years in the electro-plating industry and with working along side our highly skilled toolmaking section, Thomas Keating can offer highly complex electro-formed parts for the defence, scientific and space industries.

We have huge respect for John and the work he has done for us and others and we hope to be able (and it will be quite a challenge) to follow in his footsteps. www.electroform.com As you will be aware I passed retirement age a few years ago and now Roy, who has been with Waveform since I established the company back in 1988, h...
Richard Wylde was privileged to be asked by ESO to the ALMA opening ceremony in the Atacama desert inNorthern Chile in early March 2013. ALMA has nearly all of its 66 Telescopes now connected to form a very high resolution interferometric telescope. (When you scale the 16 Km ALMA baseline using its operation wavelengths, you get a higherangular resolution than, say, the Hubble telescope operating in the visable). The trip also took him to theHigh Site where the antennas are placed - a little above 5000 Metres, where the air pressure is not muchmore than half that at sea level. Richard Wylde at the high site Tasked with looking star and galaxy formation at high red shifts in the early ...
